Ganda Karnan is another fiery theyyam which has always attracted wide range of onlookers. Ganda Karnan is believed to be originated from Lord Shiva. The story behind the origin of theyyam goes in the following manner. Bhadra Kali killed Darikan. Darikan's wife Manodari was terribly broke and furious. Manodhari started praying Lord Shiva and pleased him with her prayer. She requested for a boon. Shiva gave some drops of his sweat and blessed that whoever is sprinkled with this sweat drops, they will be affected with small pox. On her return, Manodhari finds Bhadra Kali on the way and immediately throws the drop of sweat on her. Bhadrakali was immediately affected with small pox.

On knowing this incidence, Lord Shiva for furious and thus a creation took birth in the throat of Shiva and came out through his ear. This creation is Ganda Karnan. Theyyam performance of Ganda Karnan is really attractive in nature.The theyyam carries big flames around its waiste in all directions also have a sky high head gear. Complete body of theyyam artist will be clad with tender coconut leaves. The theyyam performance will be usually accompanied by "Govinda" cheers by onlookers. Usually performed during late night and continue till dawn.The theyyam artist need to be a real expertise as he has to withstand the immense heat generated by large number of fire logs all around his waist and carry around the very high head gear.
