From the abstract of Maappila/Muslim theyyam we have seen that muslims are devoted and performed as theyyams. Not only males, some of the Muslim femals as well are performed as theyyam. One such theyyam where the female Muslims are performed as theyyam is Ummachi theyyam. Yogiyar theyyam, who is a martial arts expert and skillfull fighter, gets converted to ummachi theyyam at the end of its performance. Story dates back to olden days in Neeleswaram, Kasargode district of Kerala. There was a royal family in Neeleswaram whose protector was Yogiyar. There was a muslim female who was assigned the task of extracting rice from the field. Rice was supposed to be divine and clean as it was used to serve God in the temple. One day the lady was accused that she spoiled the divine nature of rice and was beaten to death using a stick. Evil things started happening in the area. Analysis were done and found that the female need to be performed as theyyam. The Yogiyar theyyam at the end of its performance wears a Pardhah and covers the face. Marked Performance is the action of seperating Maize from the rice in the traditional way followed since ancient day in kerala.
