Moovalam kuzhi Chamundi theyyam is also known by the name Bhoopalam Kuzhi Chamundi.
This theyyam is considered to belong to the caste Saalya whose primary occupation is weaving.
The story behind the Moovalam Kuzhi chamundi theyyam goes as below.
Once upon a time there lived tow eminent scholars Edamana Thanthri and Olayath Vazhunnavar.
Both these scholars used to perform prayers and Poojas at Thrikkannatt Temple.
As time passed, once they became enemy and jelous of each other.
Each started displaying their strength and power on each other.
A powerfull creation by Olayath Vazhunnavar was captured by Edamana Thanthri and closed in a bronze Vessel and also dug it deep in the soil. In fact three person deep inside the earth.
But the devine and powerfull creation showed its strength by breaking open its shackles. Edaman was frightened and sought shelter at Lord Shiva. Shiva reduced the strength of this creation and provided this creation with special place for woship. Later it was performed as theyyam.
This theyyam is called Moovalam Kuzhi Chamundi.
Since the story is associated with reappearence of devine creation from three person deep pit, its termed Moo-Vaalam-Kuzhi-Chamundi
During the peroformance of theyyam, its taken care that no bronze utilities are kept in the vicinity as theyyam would take up a devasting form whenever any items made of Bronze is seen. Usually the photographers are kept at bay when this theyyam is being performed.
