Puthiya Bhagavathy also known as puthiyavar is a godess created by Lord Shiva for the eradication of small pox from the surface of earth. Puthiya bhagavathy is believed to be originated from the "Homa kunda" of Pathillath Patteri. Godess called Cheerma is considered to be the one spreading smallpox and puthiya Bhagavathy is set out for its eradication. When Shiva created Puthiya Bhagavathy, he also created 6 brothers for Puthiya Bhagavathy. One demon killed these brothers. Puthiya Bhagavathy took its furious form and killed the demon.
